Triathlon the Sport of Lonliness…

Triathlon is one of the youngest events on the Olympic schedule, having only existed as a sport since 1974 and having only been added to the Olympic calendar in 2000.  It is also one of the toughest, requiring competitors to complete three different long distance events one after the other with no break in between.

Although there are various historical references to events consisting of three athletic disciplines, particularly in France between the 1920s and 1960s, triathlon is generally agreed to have been born in 1974 in California when a group of track athletes came together for an event consisting of a 6 mile run, 5 mile bike and 500 yard swim. In 1989, the International Triathlon Union was formed to develop the sport worldwide and since then triathlon has become one of the fastest-growing individual sports with hundreds of events worldwide over different distances ranging from short events for children through to the iron man event which incorporates a full marathon distance run. As important as being able to complete the distances in good times is the ability to manage the switch between the disciplines – a good transition, from swim to bike and then from bike to run can shave vital minutes from your overall time.  The Olympic triathlon comprises a 1500m swim, a 40km bike run and a 10km run. The half triathlon, or sprint triathlon, comprises a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run.

The sport is developed in Cyprus by Famagusta Nautical Club, the founder of Triathlon in Cyprus which is supported by the Cyprus Triathlon Federation. They are working in developing triathlon, creating events and for identifying talented competitors to represent Cyprus in international events.

In addition, FNC will give you the opportunity to compete at the highest level of competition with greate chances of success.
